The 4-H Pygmy Goat project is an ideal project for both experienced youth looking to expand their showmanship horizons and beginners because of their small size, easy handling and low maintenance. Throughout the course of the project youth will learn about showmanship, grooming and cleanliness, pygmy goat anatomy, and how to ensure the overall health of their goat. Due to the fact that pygmy goats aren't market animals, the only divisions at fair they are able to participate in are showmanship and breeding. The showmanship division is divided by age categories, whereas the breeding division is divided by whether the exhibitor is showing a doe or a wether. All pygmy goats brought to the fair must be registered with the National Pygmy Goat Association in the name of the exhibitor showing them. Raising a pygmy goat is a process that youth of all ages will enjoy and return to year after year.
