Meat Goat

The 4-H Meat Goat project teaches youth all there is to know about meat goats, putting emphasis on proper nutrition and the importance of good care while raising a food producing animal. In addition, youth will learn about feeding, grooming, and care of non-meat goats, such as breeding class and showmanship breeds. Regardless of purpose, all goats require simple equipment such as halters and lead ropes for control of the animal during grooming and during showmanship at the fair. Goats are a good introduction to larger animal projects due to the fact that standard meat goats tend to stay fairly small. Although it is a project limited to youth 9 years old and older, primary members are more than welcome to join the 4-H Pygmy Goat project.
